Olegabulu Community Plunged into Mourning Following Execution-Style Killing of Traditional Ruler
Suspected gunmen have killed five people, including a prominent traditional ruler, in the Olegabulu community of Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, April 23, 2026, saw four assailants on motorcycles infiltrate the residence of Chief Momo Alexander Awodi at approximately 8:00 PM.
The victims have been identified as Chief Awodi, his wife Abigail Awodi, and their son Boniface Ochowechi, along with two other residents.
Local sources revealed a disturbing detail: the attackers reportedly exchanged pleasantries in the local Agatu dialect before opening fire, suggesting the assailants may be from neighboring communities rather than external herdsmen.
Agatu LGA Chairman Melvin Ejeh confirmed the fatalities, noting that one person survived with injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
