Osimhen Doesn't Care if You're Van Dijk: Iwobi Opens Up on Super Eagles Striker’s Grit

Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen celebrating a goal for the Nigeria Super Eagles

Fulham playmaker and Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has provided a fascinating insight into the elite—and sometimes extreme—mentality of his teammate, Victor Osimhen.

Speaking on the Best Mode On podcast, Iwobi described the reigning African Footballer of the Year as a player who is willing to "fight and cheat" just to secure a victory.

Osimhen, who has netted 35 goals in 52 appearances for Nigeria, is renowned for his physical style of play.

Iwobi noted that this intensity doesn't switch off during training sessions, where the striker often risks injury by putting his body on the line.

“He doesn’t care who you are. He doesn’t care if you’re Van Dijk... he will fight," Iwobi said. "Sometimes he cheats, and he knows he’s cheating just to win.

But it’s just a sick mentality. He will create five chances a game just from hard work and running.”

Despite calling Osimhen "raw" or "unpolished" at times, Iwobi insisted he isn't surprised by the striker's global success, attributing it to a relentless drive that treats every game—from the Champions League to a kickabout with friends—with the same life-or-death importance.
