Anambra Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Syndicate, Recover Stolen Tanker in Ogidi Raid
The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a major tactical victory following a successful raid on a criminal hideout in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
In an operation conducted on March 21, 2026, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, apprehended three suspected armed robbers and cultists believed to be terrorizing the region.
Among those arrested is 35-year-old Okoye Chinonso, who is allegedly a serving member of a security agency.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police recovered two locally made Beretta pistols, live ammunition, and a suspected fake security identity card.
"The suspects are also being investigated for possible involvement in the gruesome murder of the late President General of Ogidi," Ikenga noted, highlighting the high-stakes nature of the arrests.
In a parallel success, the Ozubulu Police Division recovered an abandoned white petrol tanker along the Onitsha/Owerri Expressway.
The vehicle, found with the key still in the ignition, is suspected to have been stolen.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the command's dedication to securing the state and urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence to help flush out remnants of criminal gangs across Anambra.
