Tragedy in Bauchi: Police Arrest 20-Year-Old for Kidnap and Murder of 4-Year-Old Victim
The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended 20-year-old Rabiu Safiyanu in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of a four-year-old boy, Yunusa Salisu.
The suspect, who was described as a friend of the victim's family with free access to their home, allegedly kidnapped the child on March 18, 2026, from the Nasarawa Madina Quarters.
In a distressing statement by SP Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, it was revealed that the suspect demanded a ₦500,000 ransom from the father.
Despite receiving an initial payment of ₦100,000, Safiyanu confessed to strangling the toddler and dumping his body at the Warinje Hills.
Detectives led by the DPO of ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters recovered the decomposing remains, which showed clear marks of strangulation.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has condemned the act as a "heinous betrayal of trust" and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure a swift and discreet prosecution.
The victim’s body has since been released to the family for burial on-site due to public health concerns.
Residents are urged to be hyper-vigilant about the individuals they allow into their domestic spaces.
