American rapper Wiz Khalifa is facing a possible nine-month prison sentence in Romania following a marijuana-related offence, after a Romanian court overturned an earlier ruling that imposed only a fine.
On Thursday, December 18, the ConstanÈ›a Court of Appeal upheld an appeal filed by the DIICOT ConstanÈ›a Territorial Service, Romania’s state prosecutor’s office, seeking a custodial sentence for the popular rapper. The new ruling replaces an earlier judgment that fined Wiz Khalifa 3,000 lei, approximately $700.
According to sources familiar with the case, the sentence is not yet final, as the rapper’s legal team has already initiated the appeal process in an effort to secure a non-custodial alternative or overturn the ruling entirely.
The case dates back to July 2024, when Wiz Khalifa was arrested and briefly detained after a performance at the Beach Please Festival in CostineÈ™ti, a popular seaside resort in Romania. During his performance, the rapper was reportedly seen smoking marijuana on stage while dancing to Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg’s song “The Next Episode.”
