Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has revealed a surprising twist in his career journey, stating that missing out on a chance to appear on Big Brother Africa became a turning point that propelled him into mainstream success.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, Timini shared that he was one of five Nigerians shortlisted for the reality show several years ago. The group had completed all requirements and were even asked to pack their bags in preparation to join the house. However, he was eventually dropped from the final selection.
“I had hired someone to manage my social media because I was ready for the show. But in the end, they didn’t pick me,” he explained. “I think Tayo went that year. It was disappointing, but it turned out to be one of the best things that happened to me.”
The same year he lost the Big Brother Africa opportunity, Timini landed a role in MTV’s Shuga Naija, a hit TV drama series that launched him into stardom. Since then, the actor has built a solid career with roles in top Nollywood productions and streaming projects.
Timini reflected on the importance of trusting one’s path and not getting discouraged by setbacks. “Sometimes, lost opportunities are actually blessings in disguise. I believe I’m exactly where God wants me to be,” he said.
He added that his life could have taken a different direction had he gone on Big Brother, possibly fading into obscurity after the show. “The hype would have died down by now. Maybe I wouldn’t even be acting anymore.”
Timini’s inspiring revelation serves as a lesson for young creatives to remain resilient and keep moving forward despite disappointments.
