In a heartbreaking turn of events in Anambra State, kidnappers have reportedly killed Ifesinachi Onyekere, the son of APGA Women Leader, Esther Chinyere. The businessman was abducted from his home in Okpuno, Awka, on Saturday, July 27, 2025.
According to a report by LIB, the attackers stormed his residence, shot him in the leg, and forcefully whisked him away to an undisclosed location. The victim, who was the Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet, was later found dead by authorities.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a press release issued on Wednesday, July 30. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the full deployment of tactical and intelligence units to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has directed all tactical and intelligence units to redouble their efforts in tracking down the armed men responsible for the abduction and subsequent k!lling of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere,” the statement read.

Authorities revealed that the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla was discovered abandoned along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road by a joint operation between Anambra Vigilante operatives and the Police. Preliminary findings suggest that the assailants trailed Onyekere before launching the deadly attack.
“The deceased was shot in the leg during the abduction and was later found lifeless. His murder has sparked serious outrage and raised concerns among residents in the Awka community,” the police added.
CP Orutugu strongly condemned the brutal act, promising that justice will be served. “The Police owe it to the family, the people of Anambra, and the memory of the deceased to ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law,” he said.
Investigations are ongoing, and the Police have assured that updates will be provided as they unfold.
This incident has shaken the Okpuno community and renewed calls for improved security in Anambra State, especially as the state grapples with increasing criminal activities.
