Thousands of guests at the 2025 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu Ode were surprised when Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona, did not appear to receive homage as tradition dictates.

Festival Coordinator, Dr. Fassy Yusuff, has now clarified that the 91-year-old monarch was absent because he is recuperating at home after a recent hospital stay.
According to Dr. Yusuff, who spoke exclusively to our correspondent, the Awujale was discharged from a Lagos hospital last Thursday and is currently resting under medical supervision. “Awujale was hospitalised in Lagos two weeks ago, but was discharged on Thursday. He is now recuperating at home. A normal situation. Nothing to worry about,” the coordinator explained.
The traditional ruler, who for decades has presided over Ojude Oba in full regalia, was represented this year by Olori Kemi Adetona, his queen. Her presence soothed many attendees, but social media buzzed with speculation until the official statement arrived. Dr. Yusuff emphasized there is no cause for alarm: the Awujale’s health is stable, and he expects to resume public duties once fully recovered.
