The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has shut down 11 unlicensed beer parlors in Mokwa, Lavun, and Edati local government areas for violating alcohol sales regulations. According to Daily Trust, the crackdown was led by the Board’s Director General, Barr. Yahaya Halidu, who emphasized that the establishments were operating illegally.
During inspections, authorities discovered a hotel near a mosque in Mokwa allegedly hosting prostitutes, disturbing worshippers. The hotel owner has since offered to sell the property for conversion into an Islamic school or mosque expansion.
Barr. Halidu warned property owners against renting to illegal vendors, stating that such actions could lead to government seizure. "The closures were initiated due to the beer parlors’ failure to comply with the Board’s regulations," he said.
The Board also cautioned that any attempt to reopen the sealed businesses would attract severe penalties under state laws. This move aligns with Niger State’s stricter enforcement of liquor licensing rules to curb immoral activities and maintain public order.
