The family of late Iniubong Umoren, the 26-year-old University of Uyo graduate brutally murdered in 2021, has dismissed viral claims that her organs were harvested. According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the family described the allegations as "false and deeply hurtful."
Miss Umoren was killed by Uduak Abasi Frank Akpan, who lured her under the pretense of a job interview. He was later convicted of rape and murder and sentenced to death. However, recent claims by Dr. Sandra Duru (aka Prof Mgbeke) alleged that a high-profile politician was involved in organ harvesting—a claim the family strongly denies.
Ifiok Ephraim Umoren, the deceased’s eldest sister, stated, “I was present during the autopsy at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. No organ was missing.” Supporting this, Akwa Ibom’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Friday Johnson Itim, confirmed that the autopsy report showed all organs intact.
Mr. Abdullah, another legal representative, clarified that Senator Godswill Akpabio was never linked to the case during court proceedings. “The certified autopsy report is public and confirms no organ was removed,” he stated.
The family urges the public to disregard the rumors, emphasizing that such falsehoods retraumatize them and dishonor Iniubong’s memory.
