Nigerian singer Portable has sparked controversy after accusing the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) of sidelining veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta. According to Instablog9ja, Portable claimed Chatta was denied the Best Lead Actor award due to industry politics.
In a viral Instagram video, Portable alleged favoritism, saying, “They refused to give Ibrahim Chatta an award despite his excellent acting.” The award went to Femi Adebayo for Seven Doors, while Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress.
However, in a surprising twist, Chatta clarified on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast that he never submitted any work for consideration. “I’m not interested in AMVCA. Why pray for what I’m not pursuing?” he stated.
The actor, known for Yoruba-language films, revealed he avoids social events, which may have fueled assumptions of a snub. He also listed his numerous accolades, including the Nelson Mandela Award and recognition from Wole Soyinka.
Portable’s outburst has reignited debates on award fairness, but Chatta remains unfazed, focusing on his craft rather than validation.
