Horror on Eko Bridge: Speeding Truck Driver Dozes Off, 20-ft Container Crushes Two Dispatch Riders to Death

20-foot container accident on Eko Bridge Lagos kills dispatch riders

A tragic accident on Eko Bridge, Lagos, claimed the lives of two dispatch riders after a 20-foot container fell on them following a collision between two Mack trucks. The Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement released by spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq on Sunday.

According to Taofiq, the accident occurred due to over-speeding, with one of the truck drivers allegedly dozing off behind the wheel. The out-of-control truck rammed into another truck, causing a violent impact that dislodged the container, which then crushed the two victims—identified by their bike registration numbers T-10357 LA and KJA 107 XM.

LASTMA officials, monitoring traffic under Eko Bridge, swiftly responded, rescuing an injured truck driver who was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, the two other truck drivers fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend them.

The agency has cordoned off the area and diverted traffic through Coastain Roundabout to prevent further accidents. LASTMA’s General Manager, Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the victims' families and urged all drivers, especially articulated truck operators, to prioritize road safety, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
