Episode 2: The Pastor’s Secret Struggle

"I’m sure you're aware that your friend is expecting again," Pastor Olumodeji said as soon as we met in his office.

I chose to meet him in his office to avoid any suspicion.

"Which friend, sir?" I replied sarcastically, knowing full well he was talking about Stella.

His face showed surprise at my response.

"You mean you don’t know?" he asked, seeming a bit taken aback. "Stella, of course," he said, his voice filled with guilt.

"Who is responsible this time, Pastor?" I probed further, knowing the answer but forcing him to face the truth.

His eyes couldn’t meet mine.

"Sister Mercy, I need a favor. Please, this is the last time.

I promise I won’t ask again." His voice wavered.

"What favor, sir?" I asked, cutting him off. "Are you the one responsible for her pregnancy again? You’re supposed to be a man of God.

This is the fifth time, Pastor. What will happen to your wife, who’s been waiting for a child for nearly ten years? Shouldn’t you take responsibility for this?"

I stood up, clutching my bag, ready to leave. "Count me out of this. I will no longer be part of this cover-up."

But just as I turned, Pastor grabbed my arm.

"Please, Sister Mercy, don’t leave," he begged, nearly dropping to his knees.

As I tried to pull away, his hand brushed against me, causing an unexpected reaction.

My mind raced, and for a moment, I was confused by what I was feeling.

He quickly withdrew, apologizing. "This is a mistake. I’m sorry, this is the work of the devil," he muttered as he stepped back, avoiding eye contact.

Leaving his office, I was rattled. Was this how Stella had found herself trapped in this cycle? I called her right away.

"We need to talk," I said, not quite knowing how to explain what had just happened.

When I met Stella, I understood something I hadn't before.

Pastor’s charm wasn’t just about manipulation; his touch had an effect that was hard to resist.

I had gone there to confront him, yet now I found myself battling my own feelings.

Could I ever tell Stella the truth? How would I explain that I was no longer just her friend but possibly another woman drawn into Pastor Olumodeji’s web?

Should secrets like these remain hidden for the sake of others, or should the truth always come out?
