Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday asked the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, to resign or be precluded from functioning in office while his suspension subsists.

Ojezua, who noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki enjoys the goodwill and prayers of Edo people, many of who are not politicians, said the goodwill would guarantee the party’s success in the 2020 governorship election.

Besides, the Edo Forum of Patriots (EFP) has appealed to all Edo political stakeholders to eschew violence.

Chairman, Interim Management Committee, Aiyamehue Edokpolor, said Edo State was known as the peaceful and hospitable state in the country and frowned at the resort to political violence by some members and supporters of APC, which have dire consequences on the state’s security.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Bakut Bakut yesterday canvassed a peaceful resolution of all political issues in the nation’s political space, before and after the elections to promote peace.

Bakut made the call ahead of the 2020 gubernatorial election at a two-day post-election dialogue for stakeholders in Benin City.

He stressed the need for politicians in the state to explore all available means of dialogue to resolve their political differences in the interest of all.

Bakut, who was represented by his Principal Research Fellow, Chidozie Douglas Acholonu, said politicians often fail to explore the option of dialogue after elections in the country.

He said the carnage, criminality, and destructions that regularly occur during elections were regrettable, noting that the recent ones witnessed in Bayelsa and Kogi state governorship elections were some of the few to be mentioned.

Bakut stressed that going by the ugly occurrences in the Nigerian political system, if it was not corrected immediately, the essence of the country’s democracy might be defeated.
