Mismanagement Allegations Stall N70m Delta Hospital Board Cooperative Savings Recovery

Serving healthcare workers and retired civil servants under the Delta State Hospital Management Board Multipurpose Cooperative Society II have issued a desperate appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the State Attorney General to intervene in the recovery of over N70 million in withheld savings.

Speaking with journalists in separate interviews, cooperative members revealed that prolonged administrative delays, financial mismanagement, and unfulfilled dispute resolution agreements have deprived them of their hard-earned life savings.

Cooperative President Emelereta Emmanuel noted that the financial gridlock has halted annual general meetings (AGMs) and exposed current executive members to harassment and security threats from distressed members.

A retired couple, Herrieta and Julius Otobene—who both exited public service in 2025 with over N2 million locked in the scheme—expressed deep disappointment, stating that their hopes of a peaceful retirement have been ruined.

Legal representative Benjamin Amede detailed that despite petitioning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and agreeing to a Ministry of Justice alternative dispute resolution process on June 1, relevant authorities have failed to release funds, preventing the required AGM from taking place.

Secretary Israel Watite added that total historical contributions accumulated over two decades could range between N800 million and N1 billion, urging the state government to audit past executives and ensure full refund of members' contributions.

"We have more than N2m in the account. We were supposed to retire in peace after paying our dues as civil servants, but now we are embroiled in this scandal. All we want is our money." — Julius Otobene, Retired Civil Servant
