Protests entered a third consecutive day in Port Harcourt on Tuesday as the family and friends of 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, demanded justice over his death at the hands of police officers.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Ada George-Agip junction when police officers chased Obodo's vehicle and fired three shots, killing him inside his car.
Demonstrators blocked traffic with placards demanding the public parade of the shooter, identified by police as Corporal Alfred Louis.
The victim's grieving father, Princewill Obodo, revealed that police division leadership confirmed the officers had abandoned their assigned security post at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference at Yakubu Gowon Stadium before mounting the unauthorized checkpoint.
Rivers State Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju assured the public that all involved officers have been detained and will face prosecution.
