The death toll from the consumption of unapproved herbal drinks in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has risen to 27, prompting a statewide enforcement crackdown by government task forces.
Odigbo LGA Chairman Taiwo Adegoroye confirmed on Thursday that three additional deaths were recorded across Araromi Obu and Odigbo town before joint medical intervention teams contained the crisis.
Environmental and health officials have begun searching parks, markets, and street vendor spots to confiscate uncertified concoctions.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Idowu Ajanaku, issued an official warning advising residents—particularly youth—to avoid unverified remedies and obtain medicines exclusively from regulated outlets.
