Tragedy struck Popo Giwa Street in Ilorin, Kwara State, during the early hours of Tuesday when a three-storey building collapsed, killing four members of the same family and leaving four others injured.
The structural failure occurred around 5:00 AM at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, trapping eight occupants under the rubble of the building's boys' quarters.
Joint emergency teams—comprising the Kwara State Fire Service, SEMA, NEMA, NSCDC, and the Red Cross—swiftly deployed excavators and ambulances to the scene.
Four victims, including a young girl named Firdaus, were rescued alive and transported to the hospital, while four bodies were recovered.
Representing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Education Commissioner Lawal Olohungbebe offered condolences to the family and urged property owners to adhere strictly to town-planning and building safety regulations.
