Health policy and consumer safety desks are monitoring widespread interest after the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) declared a national outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis across the United Kingdom.
Public health investigations confirmed 207 illnesses and one death linked to the single strain outbreak.
Roughly 38% of confirmed patients required hospital treatment, prompting health authorities to issue urgent food safety warnings to commercial kitchens, catering services, and households.
Traceback efforts led by the UKHSA and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) indicate the primary infection vector points toward imported eggs sourced from outside the UK that were served across various commercial catering venues.
Authorities confirmed there is currently no evidence linking British Lion-marked domestic eggs to the outbreak.
