Nigerian-South African beauty queen and Miss Universe 2024 first runner-up Chidimma Adetshina is dominating news headlines after the Cape Town Regional High Court postponed final judgment in her deportation trial to February 27, 2027.
Adetshina is actively challenging a legal attempt by South Africa's Department of Home Affairs to detain and deport her alongside her young son following allegations of identity fraud linked to her mother's registration of her birth in Soweto.
The court postponed proceedings to allow time to review her parallel High Court application seeking to reinstate her revoked South African citizenship.
The case triggered intense public interest following anti-xenophobia statements delivered by Adetshina outside the courthouse, as well as demonstrations held nearby by nationalist protest groups—including Operation Dudula and March and March—demanding her immediate return to Nigeria.
