More than 300 suspected Lakurawa militants riding on motorcycles invaded Kebbe town in the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, engaging military personnel in a fierce gun battle while attacking public infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and local businesses.
The heavily armed group reportedly breached the town around 10:00 AM, prompting soldiers stationed at a local military base on the outskirts of Kebbe to engage the assailants.
According to Sokoto-based security analyst Bashar Altine, four soldiers were allegedly killed during the firefight, though official military sources have yet to confirm the casualty figures.
Spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the attack, stating that law enforcement agencies are gathering information before issuing a comprehensive public report.
Following the initial clash at the military outpost, the militants advanced into the Sabon Gari area of Kebbe town.
Witnesses reported that the attackers looted commercial shops, carting away mobile phones and food items, before damaging a military vehicle with heavy gunfire.
The group subsequently stormed the General Hospital, Kebbe, vandalizing vehicles—including an official police car and an ambulance—and seizing mobile phones from patients before retreating toward neighboring districts including Ungushi.
