NBC Warns Broadcasters and Bloggers Against Disinformation and Inflammatory Speech

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a stern advisory to radio and television broadcasters, online publishers, and digital content creators against airing misinformation, hate speech, and unverified political claims.

The regulatory warning follows the official commencement of political campaigning across the country.

In a formal statement released by Moses Jolayemi, Technical Adviser to DG Charles Ebuebu, the commission highlighted that broadcast coverage must remain strictly fair, equitable, and objective.

The regulator instructed operators to refrain from using their platforms to give unfair advantage to any political party, noting that presenters must not express personal political biases as fact on air.

Additionally, the NBC reminded stations that only election results officially announced by authorized returning officers should be broadcast, prohibiting early projections or speculative exit poll declarations.

"Responsible journalism, credible information, and fair political discourse are essential to protecting national cohesion and ensuring that Nigerians can make informed choices." — National Broadcasting Commission Directive
