Inibehe Effiong Accuses Peter Okoye of Social Media Trial in Jude Okoye Case

Human rights lawyer and former legal counsel to music executive Jude Okoye, Inibehe Effiong, has publicly criticized singer Peter Okoye over his ongoing social media commentary regarding the Psquare financial and business dispute.

In a detailed statement published on his official X handle, Effiong—whose law firm initially handled Jude's bail applications at the Federal High Court and Lagos High Court before handing the defense over to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria—argued that Peter is actively attempting to sway public opinion through a media trial.

Effiong emphasized that Jude Okoye has not been convicted of any crime by a court of competent jurisdiction and remains constitutionally entitled to the presumption of innocence.

Addresssing the court process, the lawyer noted that standard bail conditions, such as depositing travel documents, do not constitute a finding of guilt. He expressed concern that Peter Okoye, acting as the nominal complainant in two active court cases, continues to take the matter to social media platforms while judicial proceedings are underway.

The legal practitioner further alleged that statements made by the singer on public platforms contradict the verifiable admissions he has delivered under cross-examination in court.

Effiong urged Peter Okoye to focus his energy on testifying in court to support the active charges rather than litigating through social channels, emphasizing that the judiciary must be allowed to decide the defendant's guilt or innocence objectively.

"What Peter is saying online differs from the verifiable admissions he has been making under cross-examination in court. He knows exactly what he is doing." — Inibehe Effiong
