EFCC Arrests Self-Proclaimed Edo Spiritualist Over $1,100 Sextortion Plot

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an Edo-based self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, in Ekpoma for allegedly blackmailing an international client.

Moses allegedly extorted $1,100 (approximately ₦1.5 million) from an Indian woman after threatening to leak a video of her online.

According to an official statement released by the anti-graft agency, the victim had originally reached out to the suspect on Zelle—where he misrepresented himself as having spiritual healing capabilities—seeking assistance with personal health and life challenges.

Exploiting her trust, Moses instructed the woman to record a "naked spiritual bath," which he captured live without her authorization before using the footage to demand ransom payments.

Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim paid the requested $1,100 to prevent the public disclosure of her private video. The EFCC confirmed that Moses remains in custody and will be formally arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

"The suspect subsequently deceived her into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded live without her permission, and thereafter blackmailed her to send him money." — EFCC Statement
