The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is considering restricting petrol sales to major oil marketers who continue importing petroleum products into Nigeria, citing serious concerns regarding product quality and brand integrity.
Sources within the 700,000 barrels-per-day facility revealed that imported petrol of uncertain quality is being blended with refined products purchased directly from Dangote Refinery before being sold to the public.
This practice makes it difficult for consumers to distinguish genuine Dangote products from lower-spec imported blends.
The refinery has raised alarm over the lack of a standardized laboratory and regulatory quality control infrastructure to independently test imported fuels, emphasizing that its domestic production meets strict international standards—as reflected by its growing role as Europe's largest external supplier of jet fuel.
