NDLEA Dismantles Record-Breaking $362M Meth Synthetic Lab in Ogun Forest

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued an urgent public disclaimer exposing a sophisticated digital fraud scheme where criminal elements are falsifying the identity of the agency’s National Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, to swindle unsuspecting citizens through fake asset auctions.

Speaking during an inter-agency operational briefing at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, warned that the syndicates are circulating forged letters and electronic text transmissions offering forfeited luxury vehicles at ridiculous discount prices.

Babafemi reiterated that the anti-narcotic body never conducts direct, private asset allocations, clarifying that all legally seized vehicles and real estate proceeds are processed exclusively via open, transparent public bidding managed by registered, independent government auctioneers and published across nationwide print media.

"These fraudulent offers are a malicious gimmick designed solely to defraud targeted individuals of their hard-earned money... Forensic teams recovered 2,419.48 kilogrammes of precursor chemicals, industrial solvents and crystallised methamphetamine valued at $362.9 million (about N480 billion) on the international market, making it the largest single drug seizure by value in Nigeria’s history," Babafemi reported.

Simultaneously, the agency raised a severe structural alert regarding an emerging geopolitical security threat: international drug cartels collaborating with domestic syndicates to build massive, industrial-scale "clandestine methamphetamine laboratories" deep within remote agrarian forest reserves.

Highlighting their unprecedented enforcement victories between January and May 2026, the NDLEA disclosed it has secured 1,778 convictions, arrested 9,769 suspects, and intercepted N480 billion worth of narcotics. This includes the demolition of a massive chemical synthesis plant hidden inside the Abidagba Forest in Ogun State, which operated in tandem with a fortified operational bunker in Lakowe, Lekki, Lagos.

The high-stakes Lekki sting resulted in the arrest of the primary drug baron, Anochili Innocent, alongside three specialized Mexican chemical engineers imported explicitly for their illicit synthetic mastery.
