FG and ICPC Launch Joint Task Team to Target Health Sector Corruption

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on corrupt practices within the healthcare sector, warning that the diversion of public resources directly compromises patient care nationwide.

Speaking in Abuja during the inauguration of a Joint Task Team between the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Coordinating Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate emphasized the implementation of early-detection mechanisms to prevent financial leakages.

The Joint Task Team operationalizes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Health Ministry and the ICPC in October 2025. Co-chaired by directors from both institutions, the team will conduct quarterly compliance assessments following disbursements under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF 2.0).

To enhance transparency, 774 independent officers—one per local government area—have been deployed alongside National Identification Number (NIN) authentication systems to verify resource allocation and stop duplicate funding.

"Let me be unequivocal: this Ministry will not tolerate corruption... The team is expected to identify institutional vulnerabilities, strengthen preventive controls, and improve oversight across the health sector." — Prof. Muhammad Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare
