Following highly contentious party primaries, a powerful faction known as the G15—which comprises ten governorship aspirants, three sitting senators, several House of Representatives members, and the party’s Elders Caucus—has openly revolted against the alleged single-handed imposition of candidates by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The G15 has warned that the APC stands to lose key political heavyweights, including Ambassador Yaya Seriki Gambari, the Director General of the governorship campaign council for both the 2019 and 2023 elections. Dr. Abioye stressed that losing the G15 would be a "grave political mistake" that could hand the state back to the opposition in 2027.
