The deep-seated leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a dramatic turn as the Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction officially petitioned the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately strip David Mark's National Working Committee (NWC) of recognition.
In a stern Tuesday press release, Gombe insisted that a subsisting court judgment has declared all decisions, state congresses, and administrative actions carried out under Mark's leadership null, void, and entirely illegal.
The faction demands that the national electoral umpire strictly respect the rule of law by uploading and recognizing only the authentic, court-approved Gombe leadership on its public digital portal.
This development follows recent high-profile litigation in the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which dealt a devastating blow to the parallel caretaker committee's legitimacy.
Beyond the administrative dispute, the Gombe faction directed a sharp warning toward former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. The group formally demanded that Atiku cease presenting himself as the ADC's presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The leadership clarified that Atiku has never been, and is not currently, the party's official candidate, giving him a strict seven-day ultimatum to issue a public apology to ADC members.
Additionally, the Gombe faction appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately arrest and prosecute Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi for allegedly disseminating false information designed to mislead the public and disrupt national peace.
