Suspected bandits launched a midnight attack on Bungudu town, Zamfara State, abducting the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, alongside members of his family.
The assailants stormed the chairman's residence—located less than 20 kilometers from the state capital, Gusau—and engaged security personnel in a fierce gun battle.
During the raid, the armed group overpowered the security team on guard, killing two police officers and two local vigilantes before whisking away the council chairman, his wife, and children.
Responding security forces immediately gave chase to the fleeing attackers, managing to safely rescue several of the chairman's children during the pursuit.
The Zamfara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding ongoing search and rescue efforts.
"Eyewitnesses say the gunmen overpowered security personnel guarding the residence, killing two police officers and two vigilantes before whisking away the chairman, his wife and children."
