The political feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has intensified following Atiku's dismissal of allegations that he bribed former Speaker of the House of Representatives, the late Ghali Umar Na’Abba, to impeach Obasanjo before the 2003 general elections.
The accusations resurfaced in a formal letter authored by Obasanjo responding to reflections on the 2003 political era.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku characterized the accusations as baseless political mischief designed to tarnish his reputation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku questioned why Obasanjo chose to resurrect claims involving a deceased individual who can no longer defend his integrity, maintaining that his only offense was standing firm against Obasanjo's unconstitutional third-term ambitions.
"By invoking a deceased man as the principal witness to such a grave allegation, former President Obasanjo has denied Nigerians the opportunity of hearing the other side of the story... Coming at a time when the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election is taking shape, the obvious objective is to besmirch my person."
