The Anambra State Ministry of Health has significantly intensified its structural enforcement campaign against deadly medical quackery and unauthorized practice with the arrest of a 47-year-old woman, Mrs. Onyinyechi Esther Charles.
She stands accused of performing complex surgical interventions, including Caesarean sections, without possessing any legitimate professional qualifications or licensing.
The suspect, an indigene of Abia State who is married into a family in Nteje, allegedly operated a deceptive Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) facility disguised as a medical center in Umueri, within the Anambra East Local Government Area.

State surveillance teams formally connected the illegal operation to multiple severe post-surgical complications and tragic patient fatalities across the local community.
Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, accompanied by the Mayor of Anambra East LGA, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, and state security operatives, conducted a comprehensive raid on the premises on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Investigators uncovered an array of clinical surgical instruments, hospital beds, and a synchronized native shrine and church altar combo inside the facility.
State authorities revealed that the suspect previously operated under the spiritual moniker "Eze Nwanyi" before rebranding herself as a church minister and a medical surgeon. The facility has been sealed and confiscated by the state government pending an official arraignment before a competent court of law.
