The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has leveled heavy political allegations against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the federal government of using state institutions to keep former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai in perpetual detention.
The opposition party alleges that the continued confinement of the prominent politician is a deliberate strategy aimed at neutralizing and weakening influential opposition blocs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking comprehensively on a live Channels Television broadcast, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, made it clear that while his party firmly backs the structural prosecution of any individual facing legitimate criminal allegations, the severe conditions and legal bottlenecks tied to El-Rufai’s bail raise massive political red flags.
The former governor currently faces financial misconduct charges filed by the ICPC, alongside a separate digital wire-tapping security trial brought forward by the DSS.
"The thinking within the ADC is that the APC government has concluded that they will not release Malam Nasir El-Rufai until after the elections," Abdullahi declared openly during the news feature.
He argued that the ruling class is visibly terrified that a free, politically active El-Rufai would act as a powerful catalyst for a unified opposition alliance.
Furthermore, Abdullahi expressed deep worry regarding the ex-governor's deteriorating health condition in detention, stating firmly that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be held personally responsible by the public should any physical harm or medical catastrophe befall El-Rufai while under state custody.
