Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, is trending at the absolute top of national and international legal timelines after being completely acquitted of all corruption charges by a British court.
The development is trending with massive intensity because it brings a dramatic end to one of the UK’s most high-profile foreign bribery trials, following more than a decade of investigations by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, a jury at the Southwark Crown Court in London returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all six counts faced by Alison-Madueke, which included five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
Prosecutors had alleged that she enjoyed a life of luxury in London—funded by oil executives seeking lucrative contracts under the Goodluck Jonathan administration—involving private jet travel, luxury properties, and chauffeur services.
