Real Madrid Confirm Arrival of French International Defender Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool

Spanish football juggernauts Real Madrid have officially confirmed the marquee acquisition of elite French international central defender Ibrahima Konaté on a lucrative four-year contract.

The 27-year-old defensive powerhouse moves to the Santiago Bernabéu on a free transfer following the formal expiration of his high-profile contract with English Premier League giants Liverpool.

According to an official statement released by Los Blancos on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the club hierarchy and Konaté finalized all paperwork to bind the player to the capital city side until June 30, 2030.

Konaté, who is currently away on international duty representing France at the ongoing global soccer tournament, enjoyed a highly decorated career at Anfield after arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, racking up 183 appearances and lifting the Premier League trophy in 2025 alongside an FA Cup medal in 2022.

"Los Blancos and centre-back Konate reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030," Real Madrid announced in an executive statement.

This high-profile defensive signing lands as a massive statement of intent for Real Madrid, who are currently engineering an aggressive, top-to-bottom squad overhaul after enduring two consecutive seasons without securing a major domestic or continental trophy.

Under the guidance of newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho, the Spanish giants are leaving no stone unturned in the summer transfer window.

Konaté’s arrival follows the previous blockbuster signings of Spain’s dynamic left-back Marc Cucurella and Portuguese midfield maestro Bernardo Silva.

With long-serving defensive anchors Dani Carvajal and David Alaba officially departing the club at the end of their respective contracts, Mourinho has prioritized restructuring the backline, successfully extending Antonio Rüdiger's stay until 2027 while keeping a close eye on Inter Milan’s flying wing-back Denzel Dumfries to complete his defensive puzzle.
