The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in close operational alliance with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, has announced the successful elimination of approximately 200 heavily armed insurgents linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) network.
The massive counterterrorism breakthrough marks one of the most significant strategic victories in recent years within the volatile northeastern theater.
Rebecca Hayes, the Director of Public Affairs for the US Africa Command, confirmed during a high-level security briefing that the high-impact operations resulted in the absolute destruction of vital insurgent infrastructure, fortified checkpoints, and underground logistical supply corridors used to execute regional terror attacks.
Hayes explained that the sweeping kinetic milestone was the direct product of months of intensive strategic planning, satellite reconnaissance, and robust bilateral intelligence sharing initiated at the formal invitation of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
