The incident, which has thrown the indigenous community into deep distress, occurred late last week as the unsuspecting children were returning home from their school campus.
Detailing the calculated method used by the kidnapper, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated on Sunday that a formal report had been lodged with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Isiala Ngwa North Area Command.
According to the police brief, the victims were trekking home under heavy rainfall when the passing tricycle operator stopped and offered them a complimentary lift. However, upon reaching a isolated segment of the road, the driver falsely claimed his vehicle had run out of fuel.
"He brought out one thousand Naira and a Jerry Can and gave the elder ones the money to get fuel for him. Having gotten it and come back, they could neither find the tricyclist and the two younger ones they left in the vehicle," DSP Maureen Chinaka explained.
The older children reportedly executed the errand quickly, but returned to find both the tricycle, the operator, and their younger siblings completely gone.
Reacting to the development over the weekend, the Chairman of the Umuosu Development Association, Barrister Chiedozie Barrah, issued a community statement confirming that the missing young pupils have still not been located.
The state command assured members of the public that tactical investigations have commenced to unmask the identity of the operator, track the tricycle, and safely rescue the children.
