Peter Okoye Slams Heartbroken P-Square Fans Requesting Retirement

Veteran Nigerian pop star and one-half of the iconic defunct music duo P-Square, Peter Okoye, widely known to global audiences as Mr P, has hit back aggressively at an online critic who publicly pressured him to retire from the active Afrobeats landscape due to his age.

The social media confrontation ignited when an X platform user with the handle @OloriOfOloris shared a snippet of Mr P's latest high-energy music video, questioning why a 44-year-old family man approaching 50 was still singing and dancing actively, while bluntly advising him that it was time to leave the commercial stage.

The ageist commentary was swiftly dismantled by popular media personality and veteran broadcaster Do2dtun, who heavily labeled the critics as misinformed individuals chasing digital clicks, pointing out that global megastars like Celine Dion, Shakira, and Beyonce are significantly older than the Nigerian star yet remain highly active.

Quoting the support, Mr P explicitly stated on Monday, June 8, 2026, that the sudden calls for his professional retirement are fueled by bitter, heartbroken fans who remain angry over the separation of the P-Square brand.

He strongly condemned the deep hypocrisy of local entertainment consumers who enthusiastically celebrate and hype international legends like Usher, Chris Brown, and Beyonce for dancing at advanced ages while trying to discourage older homegrown African talents from performing.
