The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pulled off a historic electoral clean sweep in the newly concluded Adamawa State Local Government elections.
According to official dispatches released in Yola on Monday, June 15, 2026, by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), the opposition party successfully captured all 21 available chairmanship seats and completely cleared all 226 councillorship seats across every ward in the state.
Announcing the final collated numbers, the Chairman of ADSIEC, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, lauded the electorate and the participating political institutions for ensuring an entirely peaceful, violence-free democratic exercise over the weekend.
Umar revealed that while 11 political parties originally registered their intent to contest the local council positions, only four parties—the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—ultimately fielded candidates on the ballot boxes.
“Following the final collation of results, the PDP has won all the 21 chairmanship seats contested in the state," ADSIEC Chair Mohammed Umar officially declared to local reporters. "The party also won all the 226 councillorship seats across the wards, while the election was conducted peacefully.”
This overwhelming clean sweep carries heavy political undercurrents within the North-East region.
The local government candidates had already been systematically screened and affirmed under the PDP platform before a massive political realignment occurred between February and April 2026, during which the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, defected from the PDP into the ruling APC alongside his core state assembly loyalists.
However, the majority of the incumbent local government council chairmen opted to stand their ground within the PDP structure.
This definitive landslide victory proves that the PDP’s grassroots machinery in Adamawa remains incredibly potent, successfully insulating the local councils from the structural shocks of Governor Fintiri's defection.
