The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two high-profile suspects in connection with the deliberate creation and viral dissemination of malicious false information alleging that heavily armed bandits invaded Lamini Community in Ido Local Government Area, killing six residents.
The operational breakthrough follows a frantic wave of fear, panic, and structural apprehension that gripped local communities on Monday, June 1, 2026, after a frantic voice note alleging the brutal mass homicide was widely circulated across several WhatsApp groups and auxiliary social media handles.
Upon flagging the alarming broadcast, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately mobilized multi-layered patrol units and tactical anti-crime squads to Lamini Community to verify the claims.

On-the-ground forensic evaluations conclusively proved that the purported bandit invasion never occurred.
A subsequent intelligence-led digital tracking operation executed by the State Intelligence Department (SID) successfully traced the authored voice note to a local cleric, Pastor Amos Joel Muyiwa, who was promptly taken into custody.
Under interrogation, Pastor Muyiwa confessed to orchestrating the broadcast without verifying its authenticity, further pointing detectives to one Mulikat Bashiru, who originally cooked up the unfounded security scare within the community.
