Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has directly assured citizens that the recently abducted nursery and primary school pupils alongside their school teachers will be successfully rescued, declaring that the state administration is deploying every available strategic resource to secure their unconditional release.
The governor gave this high-priority assurance while directly addressing social media influencer and activist VeryDarkMan alongside a crowd of aggrieved civil rights protesters at the Oyo State Government House entrance in a video broadcast circulating on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Expressing deep personal distress over the heartbreaking security crisis, Governor Makinde noted that the tender age of the victims—many of whom are nursery and primary school children who have been held in captivity for exactly one month and one day—makes the ongoing counter-terror operation exceptionally sensitive.
He explained that due to the delicate parameters of the mission, certain intelligence details must remain tightly wrapped, though he strongly underscored that field commanders are meticulously structuring the rescue lines to completely avoid any form of operational casualties.

“I am also distressed because I have children of my own. I’m also distressed with what has happened to our children. It has been one month, just one month and one day already," Governor Seyi Makinde told the rallying crowd.
"This is the first time anywhere in Nigeria that they have abducted nursery and primary school children. These are children that cannot even run or do anything for themselves. So, the operation to rescue them is a special type of operation.
If governments are negotiating with bandits, it means portraying great sovereignty to the bandits. In this special situation, for those children alive, we have to bear the burden.”
Confronting the complex political and moral dilemma of interacting with criminal gangs, the governor explicitly admitted that Oyo State is currently maintaining direct lines of communication with the abductors.
He defended this decision as an exceptional, highly sacrificial measure forced upon the government solely to preserve the precious lives of the young hostages.
