The Ekiti State Police Command has successfully tracked down and arrested a male suspect, identified as Sunday Olawale, for allegedly conceptualizing and aggressively disseminating false information and a highly manipulative video clip detailing an entirely fabricated terrorist bandit attack on the Are Ekiti community.
The security update was officially issued in a public statement released by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
According to the police report, operational operatives attached to the Command's elite Rapid Response Squad (RRS) trailed the suspect to his hideout in the Ekute residential area of Ado Ekiti on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Olawale was taken into immediate custody on formal charges bordering on cyberstalking, deliberate digital misinformation, and malicious content distribution calculated to orchestrate a severe breakdown of law and order, alongside inducing nationwide panic within the civil space.

“On the 12th of June 2026, a video was circulating on social media claiming that bandits had invaded Are Ekiti," DSP Sunday Abutu noted in the official police release.
"The video was later confirmed to be completely false. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to having peddled the false information on social media and was unable to give any satisfactory reason for his action.
The Police Command wishes to reiterate that there was no bandit invasion in Are Ekiti or any part of Ekiti State.”
Following his arrest, the suspect fully confessed to the cybercrime but remained completely unable to provide any logical or satisfactory reason for choosing to throw the peaceful state into an anxious state of security unrest.
Reacting strongly to the incident, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Michael Falade, warned that the command will show absolute zero tolerance toward digital content creators and individuals peddling fake news.
CP Falade strongly advised internet users to meticulously verify all security information via official law enforcement channels before hitting the share button on social media.
