According to Arise News online, an aspirant for the Esan Northeast and Esan Southeast Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Benjamin Oyamedan, has openly called on the national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to aggressively investigate the party's recent primaries in Edo State.
Speaking on the Daybreak program, Oyamedan specifically urged the party's founding father, His Excellency Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, to use a "spiritual torchlight" to audit the state’s candidate compilation.
He warned that if the national working committee blindly accepts and submits lists hijacked by localized party bosses, it will spell electoral disaster for the party in one of the country's most politically conscious sub-nationals.
Oyamedan noted that while the official, verified primary results have been intentionally withheld by the national secretariat—a strategic delay blamed partly on the ruling party’s unreleased templates—highly suspect candidate lists have continued to flood digital media networks.
The house of representatives hopeful, who has maintained an active grassroots footprint since 2003, expressed deep frustration over swirling allegations that the Esan federal slot had been unilaterally handed over to a preferred candidate behind closed doors.
He maintained that if the party leadership genuinely intends to deploy the combined "tsunami" influence of its presidential ticket—anchored by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso—it must enforce rigid internal transparency rather than allowing local actors to monetize party tickets.
Defending his decision to align with the NDC, Oyamedan insisted his defection was fueled by the party's foundational policy blueprint rather than mere opportunism, pointing out that any political platform aiming to resolve systemic national challenges like severe food insecurity and rural banditry must first demonstrate internal institutional justice.
He referenced high-profile internal pushbacks, such as activist Aisha Yesufu turning down an arbitrary House of Representatives consensus slot in Abuja because of her strict adherence to competitive voting processes, as the gold standard the party must emulate.
The aspirant concluded that since Edo voters traditionally vote based on individual credibility rather than blind partisan loyalty, the NDC must ensure its final candidates possess untainted grassroots structures to survive the 2027 polls.
