The Kaduna State Government has officially thrown its full administrative weight behind the implementation of stricter regulatory controls over global social media platforms, identifying weaponized digital media as a prominent driver of communal conflict, fake news, and regional insecurity.
The policy declaration was made public on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, during the formal dissemination of structural findings from the Delimi Prosper Project at the prestigious Gusau Institute in Kaduna.
The extensive study was executed under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRING) initiative, backed heavily by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Commissioner Maiyaki emphasized that while the Ministry of Information respects citizen engagement, the state can no longer fold its arms while digital spaces are exploited by conflict merchants to inflame ethno-religious divisions.

Drawing structural comparisons to advanced Western democracies like the United States where online tech networks face regulatory accountability, Maiyaki warned that individuals amplifying falsified reports to instigate public violence will be decisively dealt with under national anti-fake news statutes.
Corroborating the executive stance, Richard Ali, the Executive Director of Engaging Borders Strategy, Research and Development, explained that the eight-month project which concluded in March 2026 proved that youth are the primary actors in northern security dynamics, necessitating proactive digital strategies to tackle both online and offline drivers of societal violence.
