Council Chairman Benson Sunday Ayodele Dispels Fake Lagos School Bandit Attack Video

The Executive Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Honourable Benson Sunday Ayodele, alongside the management of local radio station GBEDU 100.1FM, has issued strong, reassuring statements confirming that the Imota community remains entirely peaceful, secure, and free from any security threats.

The swift intervention follows the rapid cross-platform circulation of a viral video and an unverified radio broadcast on Monday, June 1, 2026, which falsely alleged that heavily armed bandits had invaded a public primary school in the community and killed two young schoolgirls.

The completely fabricated narrative triggered severe anxiety, panic, and confusion among local parents and residents before security agencies stepped in to verify the ground truth.

According to official briefings, the misinformation originally gained traction after listeners called into a live phone-in segment on GBEDU 100.1FM claiming that the area was "on fire."

In an official press statement released on Monday, Chairman Ayodele categorically dismantled the claims, labeling them as misleading, completely unfounded, and devoid of any official record or police confirmation.

Concurrently, the management of GBEDU 100.1FM, through a joint statement by its Chairman and Programmes Director, Dayo Ajiteru, tendered an unreserved public apology for broadcasting the sensitive alarm without carrying out professional journalistic verification.

The station confirmed that subsequent immediate spot-checks with the Nigeria Police Force and community elders validated that no educational institution was breached and zero casualties were recorded, prompting the management to take full responsibility for the editorial lapse.
