The immediate past political chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, has tragically lost his life while being held hostage in a notorious bandit hideout.
The heartbreaking confirmation of his demise was made public by prominent security and conflict journalists following a prolonged period of captivity in the treacherous Birnin Gwari forest, an expansive woodland area that spans across several northern states and serves as an enclave for heavily armed criminal syndicates.
Alhaji Besse was originally intercepted and abducted alongside a respected Islamic cleric affiliated with the Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah wa Ikamatis-Sunnah (JIBWIS), Alhaji Muhammad Maibarga.
Following their forceful abduction, a disturbing propaganda video clip emerged across social media platforms, showing both prominent community elders being subjected to deep psychological and physical humiliation by their captors.
The tragic update means that both individuals featured in the viral footage have now succumbed to the harsh conditions of their captivity without ever reuniting with their respective households.
This ultimate tragedy follows an earlier announcement by the Kebbi State Police Command, which had officially confirmed the death of the accompanying cleric, Alhaji Muhammad Maibarga, inside the camp.
