The legislative storm brewing over the sudden six-month suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has escalated following fresh revelations from the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Kingibe explicitly stated that she was completely excluded from reviewing or approving the formal committee report that recommended the severe disciplinary actions against her colleague.
Kingibe explained that while she attended the initial session of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions and signed the daily attendance ledger, she immediately departed for an intensive national retreat on tax reforms.
Believing that the tax deliberations held a more profound economic consequence for her FCT constituents, she presumed other uncommitted committee members would meticulously handle the disciplinary proceedings.
“I never saw the report that led to Natasha's suspension. I was at a retreat," Senator Ireti Kingibe stated defensively. "I even complained to other senators, specifically to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
I complained to him very bitterly that I had not seen that report. I didn’t see it then. I have not seen it till now.”
The FCT lawmaker's public dissociation adds heavy credibility to the initial explosive allegations raised by Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
Oshiomhole had previously alleged that the signatures of at least three committee members were either mechanically cloned or inappropriately attached to the final disciplinary submission.
While Senate Spokesman Yemi Adaramodu initially dismissed those claims as mischievous, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele admitted the messy suspension process stood as one of the lowest structural moments for the 10th National Assembly.
Kingibe’s direct testimony points toward a serious lack of internal transparency, fueling calls for an immediate probe into Senate committee operations.
