In a decisive move to address the deteriorating security situation around the Old Oyo National Park, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared a strict 16-hour curfew across 10 strategic Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The executive directive comes on the heels of the recent mass abduction of 39 students and seven teachers, who were captured last month by armed bandits from various rural communities within the Oriire Local Government Area.
Intelligence reports indicate that the kidnappers are currently using the expansive national park as a primary hideout and operational base.
The formal announcement of the curfew was contained in an official state release issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and made public by the Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
According to the administration, the security restriction takes immediate effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, running daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
The measure is scheduled to last for an initial duration of 48 hours to enable law enforcement agencies and military personnel to conduct coordinated tactical operations within the affected border zones.
The specific administrative regions affected by the security curfew encompass the entire network of local governments encircling the national park. Residents within these domains are urged to comply fully with the movement restrictions as security forces intensify their search and rescue maneuvers.
