The Katsina State Police Command has launched a high-powered, coordinated manhunt for a syndicate of heavily armed bandits who intercepted and abducted a former Director of Defence Information, Major-General R. Abubakar, alongside his wife.
The top-tier security breach occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Saturday along the high-density Karaduwa-Matazu Road within the Matazu Local Government Area of the state, while the retired military officer was traveling en route to the capital city.
Confirming the development in an official security brief, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, revealed that the violent actors, carrying an assortment of dangerous assault weapons, blocked a red Peugeot 406 saloon car conveying the General.

During the aggressive ambush, the operational driver, identified as Abdullahi Sa’id, sustained a severe gunshot wound to his right arm before the assailants forced the General and his wife out of the vehicle and fled into the expansive forest belt.
Upon receiving the emergency dispatch, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Matazu, alongside elite tactical teams from the Village Community Response Unit (VCRU), swarmed the area to secure the crime scene and evacuate the bleeding driver to a close-by medical facility for emergency clinical stabilization.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar-Fage, who immediately conducted an on-the-spot field assessment of the ambush site, has ordered the strategic deployment of additional personnel and advanced counter-terrorism assets to accelerate ongoing search-and-rescue protocols.
