Prominent social critic and human rights activist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme has officially commenced a self-imposed 14-day hunger strike in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, to protest the recent high-profile abduction of teachers, students, and primary school pupils in Oyo State.
Ezekwueme, who serves as the Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, made the disclosure in a media statement released on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The veteran activist stated that his drastic actions were conceived as an absolute show of spiritual and emotional solidarity with the traumatized victims and their immediate families, whom he described as enduring excruciating agony and deep psychological pain in captivity.
The CLO boss asserted that the 14-day strike is designed to appeal directly to the moral conscience of the abductors while heavily pressuring the Federal Government, alongside the Oyo and Kwara State governments, to immediately upgrade their joint counter-terrorism architecture.
Ezekwueme made an impassioned plea to the perpetrators to immediately renounce their heinous crimes, surrender their weapons, and respect the sanctity of human life.
Reflecting on his lengthy history of civil disobedience, the activist noted that this is not his first time utilizing starvation as an anti-government protest tool, having previously embarked on similar hunger strikes during the annulment of the historic June 12 election, as well as the infamous Chibok and Dapchi schoolgirls' mass abductions.
He strongly urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to step up intelligence gathering to restore fading public confidence in school safety across Nigeria.
